About This Experience

There are tango shows for tourists that cost $120 and involve professional dancers on a stage. Then there are milongas — neighbourhood dance halls where real Porteños go on Thursday and Saturday nights to dance properly. I take small groups to the milonga in La Boca where I've been dancing since I was 17. We eat at an asador nearby first — a guy who has been grilling beef over wood for 30 years in a yard behind his house. After dinner we walk to the milonga. I teach you the basics of how to watch, when to clap, what you're actually seeing.

Tango dancer since age 11, bartender since age 21. Buenos Aires is a city that only opens up at midnight and I know every milonga, craft bar and parrilla that Porteños actually use. I don't run tourist tango shows — I take people to the neighbourhood milongas where my friends dance and the asado is actually good.
