About This Experience
My name is Amélie and I live in the 11th arrondissement. Every Saturday I walk to Marché d'Aligre — the best and least touristy market in Paris, in the 12th — to buy the week's food. I invite guests to come with me. We walk through the market at 9am when the best produce is still there, I explain what I'm buying and why, we have a coffee and a croissant at the zinc bar where the market vendors eat, and then I take you to a brasserie nearby for the kind of lunch that Parisians have on a Saturday: a salade niçoise or steak frites, a glass of Bordeaux, and no rush whatsoever. This is not a cooking class. It is my Saturday morning, and I am happy to share it.

I go to Marché d'Aligre every Saturday morning because it is the best market in Paris and almost nobody who visits Paris finds it. I know where to buy the best baguette (the winner of the Grand Prix de la Baguette is on my street), which wine bar in Oberkampf does natural wines without pretension, and where to eat a proper steak frites at lunch for 14 euros. Paris has a food culture that is invisible to visitors who eat on the Champs-Élysées.
