Geothermal Wild Swim and Northern Lights Hunt — Away from the Blue Lagoon
📍 Reykjavik, Iceland
📍 Vík, Iceland
🗣 Icelandic, English
I grew up near Vík on the south coast, 20 minutes from Sólheimajökull glacier. I have been guiding on ice since I was 19. Iceland has become one of the most popular destinations for female solo travellers and it deserves the reputation — it is one of the safest countries in the world for women travelling alone and the landscape is genuinely unlike anywhere else on earth. I guide glacier walks on Sólheimajökull: real crampons-and-ice-axe walks on a glacier that has retreated more than one kilometre in the last decade, which makes the climate change visible in a way no documentary can. I also run geothermal wild swimming experiences away from the Blue Lagoon tourist circuit, and northern lights hunts in winter that go to where the sky is actually dark. Iceland belongs to the people who take it seriously.
