I grew up in Peckham before it was fashionable. My parents ran a restaurant on Rye Lane for 20 years. I know every non-tourist restaurant in south London and a fair number in east — the Nigerian spot in Dalston that nobody outside the community knows about, the Sri Lankan place in Tooting that feeds the local doctors after their shifts, the Eritrean cafe in Brixton Market that has been on the same corner for 30 years. London's food is extraordinary. You just have to know where it actually is.
