Yuki Tanaka

I was born in Shimokitazawa — the neighbourhood in Tokyo that other Tokyoites come to on weekends. I have spent my whole life eating in izakayas and standing bars that require no menu in English. I know which yakitori spot is actually owned by a former sushi chef who changed direction, which ramen place uses the specific Hokkaido butter that changes the broth, and which konbini — convenience store — has the best onigiri on each train line. Tokyo's food city is infinite and almost entirely invisible without a local to read the signs.
