Women's Only Surf Session — Playa Guiones, Learn to Read the Ocean

Playa Guiones is 7km of dark sand beach with waves that break over sand bottom — no reef, no rocks — in long, rolling sets that are consistent enough to teach on and gentle enough to forgive mistakes. The water is 28 degrees year-round. These are the best learning conditions I know of in the Americas. I run women-only sessions at 7am because the crowd is smaller, the water is cooler, and the social dynamic of a women-only water is different in ways that matter: people take more risks, ask more questions, laugh more, and progress faster. I am not interested in getting you to stand up once. I want you to understand what waves are doing and be able to make decisions in the water. We start with a 30-minute ocean literacy session on the beach: how to read a break, what rip currents are and how to exit them, what the sets are doing that morning. Then we surf for 90 minutes with me in the water with you throughout. All foam boards and rash guards included.
