About This Experience
My name is Tony. I was born here and I have worked in the casino industry my whole career. Las Vegas has two cities: the Strip, which is the performance, and the real city, which is where 2.2 million people actually live and eat. The real city has some of the best Mexican food in the American Southwest — because 30% of the workforce is from Mexico and they eat well — Filipino bakeries, Vietnamese pho houses, and 24-hour diners that serve the graveyard shift. I take groups on an evening tour of local restaurants on the east side and Spring Valley: a family-owned Mexican restaurant where the casino dealers eat after their shifts, a Filipino bakery, and the 24-hour diner that has been open continuously since 1981. I explain what Las Vegas is as a city once you take the casino off the top.
