Born in East LA, raised between my grandmother's kitchen in Boyle Heights and the taquerias on César Chávez. I spent 10 years as a food writer covering LA's Mexican and Central American food scene before I decided I'd rather show people than write about it. LA has the best Mexican food outside Mexico and almost nobody who visits eats it — they go to Santa Monica and wonder why it's mediocre. I take people to Boyle Heights, MacArthur Park, and Koreatown, to the places that have been feeding the neighbourhoods for 40 years.
