Born in Jongno-gu, five minutes walk from Gyeongbokgung. My grandmother ran a gimbap place in Gwangjang Market for 40 years — I grew up eating sundae and mung bean pancakes before school. I teach Korean at a university now, which means I know how to explain things to people who are completely new to the culture. Seoul's food scene is one of the most exciting in Asia and almost nobody who visits eats at the places locals actually go.
