Third-generation Chinese-American, born and raised in Flushing, Queens. My parents ran a hand-pulled noodle restaurant on Main Street for 22 years. Flushing is the most authentic Chinese food destination in the Western hemisphere — not Manhattan Chinatown, not any other diaspora city. We have regional cuisines from Sichuan, Hunan, Fujian, Xinjiang, and Dongbei that you cannot find outside China itself. I do early morning dim sum walks and evening noodle crawls through Flushing for people who want to understand what Chinese food actually looks like at its best.
