Brendan Callahan

Third-generation South Boston Irish-American. My family has been in this city since 1947 and I grew up eating chowder, lobster rolls, and Italian sub sandwiches from the North End delis. Boston's food scene splits into two worlds: the tourist version on Quincy Market and the real version in the neighbourhoods. I know the clam chowder served in a bread bowl at the waterfront fish shacks that the fishermen use, the North End bakeries that have been making cannoli since the 1940s, and the dive bar that does the best lobster roll in the city from a kitchen the size of a closet.
