About This Experience
Alfama is Lisbon's oldest neighbourhood and the most photographed. Most people arrive at 11am to find street-sellers and tour groups. I take you there at 6:30am when the fishwives are setting up, the old men are sitting on steps drinking the first bica of the day, and the light comes through the alleys at an impossible angle. We walk the full historic district, visit a tiny chapel used by sailors for 500 years, and end with breakfast at a counter café that hasn't changed its decor since 1974.
