Third-generation Dubai family — my grandfather was one of the pearl divers whose photographs are in the Dubai Museum. I grew up in Deira before the towers arrived and I know what this city looked like before the World Cup and the Burj. I run tours through Al Fahidi and the old souks that explain what Dubai actually is, not what it's marketing itself to be. The food we eat is what Emiratis eat at home, not in hotels.
